Nix slid into the room after Shaight and tried her best not to smile as she spotted the magazines that he slid away under his bunk and tipped her head to one side ,"it's nice to hear someone finally say something like that honestly" she said with a smirk and then alid past him and dropped down onto his bunk as he busied himself emptying his room of different sized and colours bottles of pills and liquids and just about everything inbetween too.
Nix found herself wondering. Nothing like this was available on her planet as humans who came to live there were checked and if they had any bad history they weren't allowed to stay. So she hadnt ever come across anything like this before, aside jail but she'd always been too hyped up on the overdose of energy she had been draining to think of anything else to top it. She knew she did want to try something, that much she was sure of. "you only live a life once, don't waste it" she muttered quietly to herself and then nodded her head slightly, it would be better to ask for safer options seeing as of her body rejected it like the food then everyone would be in trouble.
"I've already said about the natural balance out system I have, so I really don't want to end up cutting people up and dropping you in hot water for setting me off" she said honestly and then shifted her gaze from the different offers and looked up at Shaight again. "knowing that ,what would really be safe for me but still offer the same...services" she said and then tilted her head so it was upright as her tail flicked back and forth behind her in anticipation.

Shaight nodded at her little words of wisdom, still putting the finishing touches on the array in front of them. When he was satisfied that every drug in his possession lay out on the bed and desk, he listened to her criteria. "Yes, it wouldn't do to have me chopped into little pieces," he remarked. After a moment's thought he removed several baggies of the reddish Wrath powder, a dangerous stimulant provoking extreme rage while temporarily increasing strength. Shaight shuddered to think of its effects on the redhead. He casually made it vanish up his sleeves with no explanation other than a wink. A few others similarly disappeared as he considered possible negative effects.
There was still a large selection on display, and Shaight considered for the moment which he would be taking himself. He was, and had been, on so many things that it was hard to keep track of which he may or may not be addicted to. Maybe all of them, or maybe none in particular - perhaps at this point it was just the need to be injecting, ingesting, or otherwise imbibing some substance that could make him feel a difference. Not that he considered it as such - all Shaight knew was that if he went more than a few hours without the comforting ritual of selection and usage, he became shaky and anxious. Even at the moment he was having a little trouble concentrating on keeping up his carefree attitude.
He eventually decided they might as well share. He picked one out of the bunch, a rather plain-looking vial of thin yellowish liquid. "I call this one Ride... I guess because you take it and then just sit back and enjoy it." He laughed to himself, twisting off the top and tossing it into his mouth like he would with a shot. He barely noticed the harsh bitterness, clicking his teeth together and still laughing. "Here's one for you. Maybe you should only take half." Shaight handed her a matching vial. Although this one took a while for the effects to manifest, he already felt calmer from the ritual. "It's a dissociative, so you'll probably feel..." he trailed off. "Or do you want it to be a surprise?"
He felt nothing of the effects yet, and he knew it would be a long time if he didn't do anything about it. He pulled out one of his old favorites, a simple concoction to speed up his metabolism for just a few minutes so the effects would hit him faster. For the inexperienced Nix, it would likely be unnecessary. He stuck the needle in his leg and pressed on the plunger, feeling his heart start to race almost immediately. He sat back in the chair, leaning it as far as its limited back could handle. He wondered if he'd have to move to the bed in a moment if his movements became difficult to control. Not very professional to fall out of chairs, after all.
Shaight focused on watching Nix. The effects should be coming on soon - sinking into a conscious dream-like state, dissociated from reality and perhaps mild hallucinations and trouble moving properly. He experienced a slight twinge of conscience suggesting he could have given her something less powerful for her first time, or perhaps put his own 'high' on hold to be a proper sitter. But no, she might as well start here as anywhere. "Anything yet? he asked, massaging his chest with two clawed fingers, trying to calm his erratic heartbeat.

Nix took the small bottle and while Shaight was busy downing his own bottle and ran her fingers lightly over the side of the bottle, for a moment nothing happened and she tilted her head tone side and looked at the thin liquid. But after a moment a thin dark purple strand appeared in side the bottle and nix nodded and then ran her fingers over the bottles side and watched the strand of shadow split apart to try and follow her. After a few moments the strand had become what seemed to be a very small ,20 legged spider and she gave a low chuckle and then lifted it to her lips and phased for a moment considering what Shaight had said and then shurgged her sholder and drunk the whole of the bottle.
She didn't feel anything and then nodded, it was normal for them to need time to sink it and start up ,she knew that much from the addicts who had been around her when she was inside. She also knew that her tweny modification would keep both her and Shaight that little bit safer from being caught, a shadow inside her mind was normal and easy to do and a shadow in her blood stream was how her power pretty much worked but one that had it's centre in her head and grows out over the whole of her blood stream would be most useful if she started get violent. It would make her pause for a moment and she hoped like hell that If it came to that then Shaight would some how restrain her, if he didn't then it would be a very fun ride indeed. "I still got nothing currently" she said and rested her head on her hands that were resting on her knees as her tail began to wrap around her right arm

Shaight nodded once, and the two sat in silence for a while longer. The minutes ticked by, and he used the available time to carefully re-hide all of his incriminating paraphernalia. Not that it would be much consolation that the rest of his things were put away if someone walked in right in the middle of a trip. But at least it wouldn't ALL be confiscated. And hey, maybe on this voyage, whoever caught them would simply ask to join in. With the people he knew were aboard, it wasn't much of a stretch to imagine.
An undefined length of time passed, and Shaight's eyes began to pick up strange goings-on at the corners of his vision. He began to laugh softly, pushing himself back and forth on his chair as he enjoyed the sight. He looked over at Nix, whose face seemed rather different suddenly, as though she had been replaced by someone else in the split second his attention was diverted. As much as he realized it was only an effect of the drug, it didn't stop the effect from being disconcerting. But after a moment, the effect passed and he began to enjoy the sensations in his mind and body.
He stood, feeling his every motion was perfection. He went around to the bed, tired of being on the chair, and sat beside Nix in the confined space. He splayed his arm across the headboard so that it was more or less around her, though she could move if she wanted. Shaight simply couldn't help himself. The drab colors of the room took on prettier hues, and he sighed in satisfaction. It could almost make one forget that this was a suicide mission. Among the other marvelous ideas swirling around in his head, the rather poignant one that entered was that if everyone in the world (and on the ship) was high all the time they'd all cheer up and be able to enjoy their limited freedom.
Shaight cast a glance at Nix, who would surely be feeling the effects by now. His sense of time was disjointed. What had seemed before to be a logically progressing arrangement of seconds and minutes now seemed to be completely irregular. He gazed at the digital display on the wall, watching as the second of 15:32:18 stretched out to a minute before slowly switching to 15:32:19, and the next three numbers went by almost too fast to keep track of. Ordinarily the bending of the laws of the universe would unnerve someone, but the growing sense of disoriented euphoria caused Shaight to find it hilarious. Probably half a (real) minute passed before he looked back at the redhead beside him. "So.. what-do-you... think?" His speech was just as disjointed as his chronos, coming in long pauses and short bursts.

Nix felt her head go heavy for a moment as Shaight stood up and began to tidy and hide away all the different bottles and such like and looked over him with unfocused eyes. Everything around her suddenly seems brighter and clearer, the simple dark colours of the chair across from her was suddenly brought in to a non-existent light and she could she the different colours of the wood and the glint of the plastic rungs keeping it together.
She lifted her hand up as Shaight came back over to her and looked down her arm, it seemed brighter than normal but she put that down to her new eyesight from the drug she had been given. She could see the faint glow of her purple blood under her skin and then smile as a thought crossed her mind, what would her shadows look like now that she saw like this. She flicked her fingers and a little bubble of purple wrapped round her arm and twisted up it and nix smiled again. It was the same purple as normal but the edges of it seemed lighter making it looks like fire burning up her arm. " I knida like the way shadows look in this little but what is it meant to do, cause all I can tell that happened is I'm seeing everything clearer and brighter and better" she said in a more happy voice than was normal for her as she let her shadows twist down her neck and down across her chest as Shaight sat down beside her

Watching the shadows appear and traverse across Nix's form suddenly became fascinating. After a few moments, his brain suddenly told him that Nix had asked a question. He slowly dug through the events of the past minute or so to dredge up what had been asked. She was asking about... the effects? Yes, that sounded right. When he answered, it was in the same randomly disjointed speech as before.
"Dissociatives..." he began, but as he was already feeling the effects of dissociation himself, he could not continue for several minutes. He was unaware that he had taken this long to finish his sentence, and resumed it as though there had been no pause. "Make you feel kind of like... reality doesn't work the same way. Your senses aren't better or worse, just... different." He looked once more at the shadows, which seemed now more like... anti-shadows. Lights? Purple lights. "Sometimes there are hallucinations... if you take enough... you might have. I told you to only drink half. Sensory distortion... did I say that already? I think I did." He chuckled slightly. "Attention deficit," he added, though it spoke for itself. "And don't try to walk." This drug 'Ride' was not meant to be one of those little pick-me-ups for a regular day. It was highly unlikely that anyone would be able to hide the effects and go about their activities as normal. As the name suggested, it was one meant for simply sitting back and enjoying.

Nix nodded her head and felt herself wobble slightly so quickly spread out her hands to stableise herself and then turned her head ,"well I'm going with the.....hallucinations explanation....that seems.....to sound best" she said and thenistened to herself only to realise she had said her words in short bursts with long gaps in-between them. She raised a shadow wrapped hand and ran it though her hair and attempted to mess it up but found herself off balance and tipped back a bit until her head hit the wall and then she took a deep breath and turned her head to look at Shaight for a moment
"mind if I ask how you got in to this kind of a trade?" she asked in a disjointed voice before shaking her head out of habit to try and clear her thoughts but of course it didn't work and she found herself smiling ,she was happy it hadn't worked. "I can understand how people come to kill or to try to kill but I never did understand why people would make a living out of a trade that could kill you in a few ways rather than just one" she said and watched the brightened colours twist in front of her and chuckled slightly ,"yea because that's really normal" she said quietly to herself rather than to Shaight beside her

Shaight vaguely followed the question she was asking, but his attention was focused more on his tail, snaking slowly back and forth of its own accord, moving a wrinkle around on the thin blanket. He was amused at the way the slight bulge would vanish and reappear on the other side no matter how many times he did it. His mind slowly processed the words, one by one, and then arranged them in a logical string in his mind. It was as if he could see it happening, watching the text fall into place. Eventually he was able to comprehend what she wanted to know.
Next came the step of forming a coherent answer. Again he watched the words form in his mind, not really understanding the meaning behind them, but his subconscious told him it sounded right. "On my... home planet. Nobody told me there was a safe way.... to live. It was a constant fight for... life." He shrugged, which seemed to take an eternity, and then wondered what he had just said. Whatever it had been, the next part appeared to be falling out of his mouth. "No technology... predators everywhere... After my training I got set up... with a job on one of the IO planets." He closed his eyes, remembering the drastic change. From leaping out of trees onto unsuspecting wildlife, hoping something wasn't in a higher tree considering doing the same thing... To the drudgery of restaurant work. Waiting tables, working in the kitchen... it was so boring. The other staff often asked why he was never fazed by the constant flow of orders and shouting and deadlines. He never said that he much preferred his meals surprised and running. He remembered that he was supposed to be saying his thoughts out loud, not in his head. "Working in a... restaurant. After my life before... So dull. So when I found... the underground world... it seemed like child's... play." Yes, first it had been buying the drugs for himself. The feelings would take him to other worlds, make this world exciting again with no real danger. But then he began to sell them himself. And then he began to make them. His kitchen skills were perfect for the task, and his predatory instincts kept him on top of the game, or so he thought.
In the end, he didn't care about the risks. He was never taught about 'the meaning of life' or any kind of spiritualism, so his life in the end "Doesn't matter," he said, not realizing he had only said the last part aloud. He backtracked to explain. "What's life... but a way to do what you love... as long as... you can?" Yes, this drug was certainly making him introspective this afternoon. "Dying is just... the end of the game... Yeah, it'll be sad, but... it will be worth it to have... been having fun. Right?" And the many different ways that death could find him in this trade only raised the stakes. Now he was really curious about what Nix had thought of his little speech. "Why..? What's your... personal... philosophy?" he asked, and began to laugh at nothing in particular.

Nix listened to what Shaight said and took it in slowly, like she was inspecting every word in her head before understanding it and then letting the next one in. She nodded her head very slowly and then tilted it to one side like she would normally but when the rest of the room tilted with her and remained looking the same as it has before she blinked her eyes and righted herself just as slowly. "parent I never knew....and uncle and aunt...who hated me...I just took what I...could get and tried to...live" she said simply and honesty ,"when my power came....out they sent me off in......seconds and were glad to see me....go away from them" she said and felt her hands curl up slightly and her shadows grew tighter around her arms until she could feel them running over her skin. "training went well...I was a guard soon....they sent me back to....the village again....and my fokes told me about.....my parents and insulted me.....but I could fight back then...so I did" she said and felt her shadows twisted suddenly around her arms and flex out into spikes that started to grow before she snapped the memory out of her mind and the shadows relaxed again. "for me it's just....live the life...you have the best you....can..you only get...one chance at it" she finalised in a long breath

Shaight listened to this continuation of her story, mind desperately trying to keep up with the flow of her speech with all its stutter-stops and starts, all the while knowing he sounded the exact same when he spoke himself. "Biology isn't... important. If they're... your aunt and uncle... it doesn't mean they're... your family." On Casuso, the only 'family' you had were those you liked. Mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles... it didn't really matter. The ones who survived were the ones who had people to back them up. And the ones who backed you up were called your family. Not the people who shared your genes.
He nodded at her philosophy. It was an admirable one, though it didn't mention anything about whether risk was worthwhile, which was really his point. Or perhaps she meant that you should be careful with your life, since there was only one. He disagreed. The point was to have as much fun as possible until it ended, whenever that end may be.
Shaight was fast slipping off into a dream world. His eyes were open, but what he was seeing and experiencing was not the spartan grey walls and grey bedspread in front of him. He appeared to be in a world of mysterious beings who were trying to talk to him, but he didn't understand their language. The beings were dancing... or something. And Shaight wanted to join them. Occasionally the real world would come back into focus for a few seconds for him to look over at Nix, who was likely experiencing some sort of dream world of her own.
The hallucination returned, and Shaight watched the swirling figures, trying to puzzle out whether this was a good dream or a bad one. Then again, did it really matter? He was just along for the Ride.
((We can probably finish this thread up soon, either if they fall asleep or if the drug wears off. My muse is dying d: ))
