Name of Race: Garar
Name of Home Planet: Casuso
Description of Planet: Casuso is like Earth in approximate size, proximity to its star, and basic composition. The climate is hotter and harsher, with less greenery and fresh water, and more desert. There are a few rather dry forests surrounding the few freshwater lakes, and this is where most of the planet’s land organisms reside. The oceans have a very high salt content, and land animals tend to avoid it, especially since getting to it involves crossing vast expanses of desert. Most of the wildlife on Casuso is predators, due to short supply of vegetarian-friendly food. Competition is fierce, and although a few of the animals bear some resemblance to cute Earth creatures, you may be unnerved to see them equipped with fangs, claws, and poison spines. Even the plants often have some defense mechanism. In general, it is best to stay far away from the planet unless carrying something like a flamethrower. In recent years, an attempt at colonization was made by the IO, but the terraforming didn’t take, and the constant need for food and water shipments was getting expensive. The project was cancelled, and the abandoned settlement was quickly overrun.
Description of Race: The Garar are humanoid in basic form. As previously mentioned, many of Casuso’s life closely resembles Earth’s, with the difference of being rather better armed. Thus, the way in which the Garar differ from the Human is with the addition of many protruding jagged fangs, long claws, better eyesight and sense of motion, and a tail for ease of a more quadrupedal gait if desired. They walk on two legs in their own safe places, but can easily get down on all fours for quick getaways. Their claws (on both hands and feet) mean that climbing trees is easy.
In their vicious society, the Garar value cunning, physical strength, and ability to lead and protect the group. No religion was formed in this society: any philosophical question about the way of things is usually answered with a “Who cares?” and a slap to the back of the head for not paying attention to ‘real life’.
History of Planet/Race: Technology hadn’t progressed very far before the IO landed. The weapons were primitive, the settlements nomadic and unpredictable. Agriculture was futile, so a hunter-gatherer society was all that was possible. However, the Garars’ brains were highly developed, and once the IO introduced their technology and culture, they were receptive. A few preferred the ‘old ways’, remaining in their primitive bands, but most were eager to leave their planet and explore the universe.
