You only have to read the underlined parts really… the rest is if you're unclear about something.
If you have any questions or suggestions about the rules, or if I've forgotten anything, PM me, leave a post on the suggestion etc board, or ask in the cbox.
No god-moding.
I'm sure anyone who joins here will know what this means, but I'll go over it anyway. This means you can't control another person's character, or physically touch him or her in a post without giving him or her a chance to react. This is annoying as well as banned on most RP sites. There can be some exceptions, if both characters agree to it by PM, e-mail, cbox chat, whatever. It's not like we as the admins are going to call you on it. Your RP is completely your business. However, if someone complains about a god-moder, we will give said offender a little talk.
And (also see Mary Sue rule), don't make your character act like a god. Don't read people's minds, and don't be completely invincible and immune to everything. Let someone hit you once in a while, you can't always win.
Wait for your profile to be accepted before you start RPing.
I know it's annoying to have to wait, but I promise I'll be on at least once a day (probably much more) to accept them. If there's something that doesn't make sense or fit in with the world or plot, it has to be fixed before you start, simple as that.
Post length: at least one relatively long paragraph.
This is a literate forum; we don't want any one-liners. More than one paragraph is preferred. I won't set a limit on the maximum post length, but keep it within reason, okay? No lengthy paragraphs regarding the floating tresses of your character's radiant hair. Which brings us to:
Tone it down with the Mary-Sues/Larry Stus/Gothic Sues etc
I understand it's tempting to make your character flawless in every way, and sure, go ahead and make them beautiful and smart, just don't go overboard. If your character has great hair, you can mention it once in a while, but don't go on and on. Another thing. If you read another person's post and they're plotting against you... If they don't mention any outward hints or signs, don't make your character pick up on it. You don't have to know everything all the time. And if you're in a fight, let somebody hit you once in a while. As for gothic sues… the ones whose mother died and their father abused them and then also died, the ones who cut themselves every night and fantasize about suicide, the ones who are afraid to make friends because every friend they've ever had has betrayed them… WE DON'T WANT YOU. It's okay to have a sad past, or have a sad event happen, but we don't want constant doom and gloom. Oh yeah, one more thing. Don't make your character overly 'special'. Oh, your character is the sole survivor of a massive planetary destruction? Your character is the only one of their species with telekinesis? The long-lost princess of a planet? Yeah, you and everyone else. I'll probably mention something about it if I see it in your profile. Just saying.
Use proper spelling and grammar.
Goes without saying, really. Use the spell-check AND grammar-check on Word if you must. If you have some mistakes, I may correct them or talk to you about it. Just don't make us work harder than necessary. Also, use third person at all times. No I, we, or me. I'm not a grammar nazi but elementary mistakes do bother me.
Swearing is allowed.
Yes, if you must. Don't abuse the privilege >_>
M RPs are NOT allowed.
Neither is anything that would be rated "above PG-13". I'm sorry, but my ad on the proboards site has been locked because I allowed it before, so... Got to change it. PM me if you really want to do it and I'll try to arrange something.
Cloning/liquid time is allowed.
Meaning, you can be in more than one thread at a time, as long as the two don't conflict. You might want to think things through carefully if you're going into another thread.
Use open, closed, or the person's name when creating threads.
If you are starting an open-ended RP where anyone can jump in at any time, put (Open) after the thread name. If you're finished with a thread, whoever started it can go back and modify the thread name, putting (Closed) or (Finished) after it instead of whatever was there. If you want to RP with one specific person or a set of specific people, put their characters' names as well as yours in place of (Open).
One character per account
Within reason, of course. If you have a spouse you can register him or her with your NPCs in your profile. You don't need to make two accounts for close people you RP with all the time. If you want twins, you can have them on the same account. Stuff like that.
Don't go overboard on the number of characters
Only make as many characters as you can keep up with. Don't just make another one if you get bored one day and then not do anything with your first one. Also, if you're making more than one, don't make them all the same. I know it seems obvious, but I've seen it done a lot.
Please be patient when waiting for people to post. Especially in 3-person or more RPs.
Establish a posting order for 3+ character RPs. If one person honestly has nothing to say, then they can let the others know and their turn can be skipped. Otherwise, don't leave a person behind just because they weren't online when the others were. And be patient... People, try to log on and post at least once a day. If you can't, then okay try extra hard the next day lol. If you know you're going to be gone for a while, post on the Absence board.
Don't take characters and races from fiction.
You can use other species or characters as a basis, but not a direct rip-off. Taking a few attributes here and there from different examples in media is acceptable. Having a Na'vi character is not. Also not acceptable is having a race called Ra'vi that lives on Mandora and looks like a person except they're really tall, have tails, and are allblue red.
If you're leaving one area, end the thread!
If you're in the Cafeteria and you decide to leave and go back to your room, then end the cafeteria thread when you leave the room, and start a new thread in the Quarters board. Don't go too far with this either. You don't have to post in every room you pass through saying "She walked through the hall on her way to her room."[/thread]. And there's acceptable lapses in time, like if you want to start a new thread that takes place a day later than your last one, you don't have to fill up all the lost time.
If you have any questions or suggestions about the rules, or if I've forgotten anything, PM me, leave a post on the suggestion etc board, or ask in the cbox.
